As you know, equipment and drinks cannot be friends. No matter how careful we are, everything is still the fault of chance, at this time the most important thing is to know how to act and why special washing is necessary.
First of all, it is necessary to consider stereotypes:
"pour a little"First of all, we should know that the commandment "pour a little" is a wrong approach, even one drop can cause harm. In service, we had a case where water dripping from the bottom of a cup caused a very serious short circuit on the motherboard. Most of the time a small amount of liquid does not reach the motherboard and only damages the keyboard, but this is an excuse and it is difficult to hope for it.
"I dried it immediately", "I put it in rice", "I dried it with cold air"...
Pouring liquid into a laptop creates two types of danger: the first is moisture, which conducts electricity and can cause a short circuit, and the second is minerals in the liquid, which remain in the keyboard, on the board, under the chips and cause oxidation. So just drying the moisture is not enough, you can turn on the computer at that moment and think that it is saved, but there is a big chance that the remaining minerals will rust and damage the laptop. The worst thing is that the problem caused by oxidation is discovered too late, when the rust "eats" the channels of the circuit board and shuts down the computer. Minerals should be washed with special liquids. (see below)
How do you behave? Consider the steps in order:
1) Turn off the laptop immediately. It doesn't matter how much liquid is poured in. You don't wait for "Shut Down". If you have a charger connected, immediately disconnect it from the charger and press and hold the power button to "Shut Down" the laptop. If the laptop has a removable battery, it is recommended to remove it.
2) If a large amount of liquid has entered the laptop, turn the disconnected laptop on its side, on the side of the cooling slots, for about 10-15 minutes.
3) After that, lay 2-3 layers of paper napkins on the keyboard, the napkins should be evenly spread and not too thick. If a lot of liquid has come out of the laptop and you think there is still a lot left inside, cover the top of the napkins with a layer of cellophane to protect the screen from moisture and close the laptop. Then wrap the outside in paper towels and bring it to the service.
4) The sooner you bring it to the service, the higher the chance of fully saving the equipment. Most pallets begin to rust very quickly. The rate of oxidation depends on the type of liquid (eg Coca-Cola starts to oxidize in a few hours). Every day of delay increases the risk. After a long period (about 1 month) there is no point in washing. Therefore, quick response is crucial. If the laptop was not damaged before bringing it to the service, equipment can be completely saved by washing.
Why does the service take 5-7 days and what are the procedures?
Our service center has brought special demineralized liquids that are used in the production of motherboards. We have 3 different purpose fluids.
Washing is done step by step:
a) The laptop should be disassembled and individual parts should be washed in a certain sequence. After each type of washing, the details should be dried for 24-35 hours (depending on the type of plate).
b) After passing all three stages, all parts must be dried for 48 hours, assembled and tested for full functionality. If everything is working properly, the cooling system should be fixed (apply thermal paste, change thermal pads, etc.) and you can continue working in peace.
c) If something doesn't work, after that diagnostics must be done. Wet hardware can not be diagnosed because liquid under the chips can cause a short circuit and damage the motherboard during diagnosis.
P.S. Hopefully, you will not need this service, but if you do, consider the recommendations and we will try our best to save your laptop.
